New Year’s Day, Arizona 2017

A perennial holiday of rupture and bane 
Begins. The art of roadkill.

This dog is sable ink, 
A medium size lump 

Like papier-mâché geology
In fifth grade, a lab

Probably. One leg is broken.
I can’t really tell.

A breath, or a whimper 
From unusual wet

And heavy wind. I pass
It like everyone else.

Thinking of personal resolutions instead.
